Uniquely fruitless of pomegranate, raspberry, with layered sweetness, caramel and aromatic sugars, tangy tea notes of red rooibos, chamomile flower, and Earl Grey.

This Chiroso lot comes from a pair of producers in different parts of Colombia; Urrao, Antioquia, and Inzá, Cauca, to be exact. While the Chiroso variety appears to be traced back to Ethiopia, it popped up on everyone’s radar by way of Urrao, where it grows in relative abundance. Initially prized locally for its productivity, a winning lot at the Cup of Excellence is what caused it to quickly spread throughout Colombia (and beyond).
The farms from this lot are between 1800 and 2000 meters above sea level, and planted in a mix of coffee varieties. Chiroso plants can be tall and short, but the seeds of both tend to be elongated and narrow-shaped cherries/seeds that look an awful lot like Typica. Perhaps most importantly, the cup is known to possess complex aromatics that are tea-like, and even floral at times. This lot certainly delivers fragrant aromatics and pronounced sweetness, and should be kept to a light roast.
