Guatemala Huehuetenango Finca La Bolsa El Rincon Washed

Sweet chocolaty on medium roast. Flavor of grapefruit, mandarine, red tea when roasting light.

Renardo Ovalle

El Rincon sits in the corner of a valley of limestone hills, and so is protected from warm, dry winds and climate fluctuations. The climate is very stable with high relative humidity, which, along with the chalky soils of Huehuetenango define the cup character of this farm. This 25-hectare farm is owned by Yolanda Galindo.

It’s Renardo Ovalle behind the award winning Finca La Bolsa who run the farm and transform production towards quality focussed microlots. Many of the plants are old bourbon and caturra trees from the early years of the farm, but the farm manager is in the process of planting new bourbon and caturra plants, along with other exotic varietals.

The Ovalle family is now one of the most recognized Guatemalan families in the world of specialty coffee. Their numerous awards at the Cup of Excellence and the positioning of their coffees in the most renowned roasts in the world have helped them to acquire this reputation. The Ovalle family invests heavily in men with important social projects in their plantations:
– daycare and school for workers’ children
– balanced meals for all workers
– higher remuneration than most farms in the country.
