Ethiopia Sidama ALO Main Station Slow-dry (ET073)

Peach blossom, Mango, passionfruit.

Overview

This exceptional lot comes from the renowned Alo Coffee, founded by Tamiru Tadesse in 2020. Located in the Bensa district of Ethiopia’s Sidama region, the ALO Main Station operates at an extraordinary altitude of 2,300 to 2,550 meters above sea level. This extreme elevation, combined with the region’s cool microclimate, causes the coffee cherries to mature very slowly, resulting in beans with incredible density and complex flavor profiles.

To maximize the potential of the JARC 74158 varietal, Tamiru employs a meticulous “slow-dry” natural processing method. After rigorous hand-sorting to ensure only the ripest red cherries are selected, the coffee is laid out on raised African drying beds. The drying time is deliberately extended to upwards of 18 to 21 days under carefully monitored conditions. This extended, low-temperature drying process allows for slow sugar breakdown and subtle micro-fermentation, dramatically amplifying the coffee’s sweetness, fruit-forward viscosity, and aromatic intensity. The result is a highly complex, exquisitely clean cup characterized by vibrant tropical fruits like mango and passionfruit, layered with elegant floral notes, blueberry, and a remarkably juicy, lingering sweetness.
