Guatemala Antigua Los Volcanes Washed (GT033)

Lemony floral, chocolate, semi-sweet.

About This Coffee

uatemalan Antigua – Los Volcanes comes from family-owned estates and small producers in the heart of Guatemala’s most celebrated coffee region. Nestled near the historic city of Antigua, between the twin volcanoes of Agua (“Water”) and Fuego (“Fire”) in the department of Sacatepéquez, these farms sit at elevations of 1,500–2,000 meters above sea level.

Antigua coffee carries a protected designation of origin (PDO), a recognition of the region’s long-standing reputation for excellence. The trees grow under a protective canopy of grevillea and native chalum (inga) shade trees, a traditional system that supports both the coffee and the surrounding ecosystem.

This particular lot, known as Los Volcanes SHB EP, is a carefully selected blend of cherries gathered from across the Antigua valley. They are centrally processed at a historic wet mill once owned by CAMEC and now operated by the Los Volcanes Coffee team. Drawing on years of experience as cuppers, agronomists, and relationship managers, the Los Volcanes team works closely with dozens of partner farms and smallholder communities. They apply precise, data-driven approaches to harvesting, fermentation, and drying, turning the diverse microclimates and traditional varieties (Bourbon, Caturra, and Typica) of the valley into consistent, high-quality lots that truly express Antigua’s distinctive terroir.

Taste Note

A great example of Antigua coffee, follows those wonderful floral versus chocolaty notes that made the region so famous. Medium roasts are recommended but good from light to dark. Lighter roasts will accentuate the lemony floral tones of the cup, the chocolaty factor will be just a hint but noticeable and smooth, a bit of nuttiness will linger in the aftertaste not present in further roast levels. Medium roasts are very clean and balanced – not too acidic, not too bitter – sweet edged and will have wonderful mix of tones. Darker roasts and smooth and semi-sweet, low acidity and very chocolaty.
